NHS and Key Workers

Firstly, we would like to thank all Key Workers for their important ongoing contribution to the national and local responses to the pandemic.

We are still providing exemptions for NHS staff in the form of access to create free parking stays whilst on-duty. This will be within NEPP managed off-street car parks only.

This digital permit should assist the activities of all NHS key workers during this difficult period.

This new scheme will last for an indefinite period but will be reviewed when the Governments own permit scheme expires. Details on this particular scheme can be found here. Members of our new scheme will be made aware of any updates prior to it coming to an end.

*Please note that this will apply in the following NEPP districts; Braintree, Colchester, Harlow and Uttlesford.

Applying for the scheme

Any NHS staff member, health and social care worker or NHS Volunteer Responder may apply for this permit. Applications should be submitted online using the below link to our MiPermit portal. Evidence of your employment with the NHS must be provided and this may be in the form of a Key Worker letter, copy of your ID badge or alternative evidence.

Once an application has been submitted, one of our team will process your request within 24 hours (applications made on a weekend will be processed on a Monday). You will be notified by email when a digital permit has been applied to your account. Please check your spam / junk folder during the time you can expect to hear from us, in case your notification email has gone there.

Once the permit has been created, this will give you access to special car park location codes details of which can be found in the below link, or by searching for your destination car park which will have 'NHS' clearly indicated within the car park title. For example: "St Marys Car Park Colchester - NHS"

*Please note that you must apply for this new scheme in order to benefit from it, or alternatively use the Government NHS Permit issued by your employer*

The Terms and Conditions for the NHS specific scheme along with the MiPermit car park locations list is available below.

What if I receive a Penalty Charge Notice?

If you do receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), please challenge this using the link below making sure to briefly explain you are a Key Worker, why you were parked and to provide a copy of your Key Worker letter. All challenges will be looked at favourably and we will aim to respond confirming the outcome of your challenge as soon as possible.

Please note our Civil Enforcement Officers may not know you are a Key Worker unless an exemption is obtained.
